Qualification:

  • Public Consultation Experience
  • Aboriginal Cultural Awareness and Aboriginal Engagement Experience

  • Knowledge of Alberta and/or BC regulatory process for public involvement
  • Familiarity with the oil and gas exploration and development business or similar

  • exercises discretion and independent judgment in identifying, planning, organizing and completing work;
  • exercises initiative in adapting and applying procedures to resolve unusual problems.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Working within a project team,plan and implement public consultation programs aimed at maximizing positive relationships with the local community.
  • Develop and maintain engagement with a variety of stakeholder groups,including rural residents and landowners,and Aboriginal groups.
  • Deal with community concerns through participation in public meetings,open houses,synergy groups and/or one-on-one meetings as required.
  • In conjunction with other Shell departments,develop and implement communications strategies.
  • Contribute advice regarding specific requirements and/or sensitivities associated with projects,i.e. regulatory requirements,concerns of the community,and appropriate Public Consultation process,issues and timing.
  • Provide Public Consultation perspective to cross-functional project teams within Shell.
  • Develop an understanding of and stay abreast of current and emerging issues within the community,the industry,governments and other groups both locally and globally.
  • Ensure Shell management and staff are aware of trends and sensitive issues which may impact current or future activities.
  • Support delivery of all commitments made within the Public Consultation process.
  • Act as a resource in emergency situations. Support appropriate aspects of the plan.

Responsibilities:

  • The role is responsible for providing Public Consultation expertise and support to the Upstream Americas (UA) Business in Canada.
  • As a member of the Public Consultation Team,the role involves working closely with the UA Business and with stakeholders in the vicinity of Shell’s natural gas and/or insitu heavy oil projects,to ensure regulatory compliance under the appropriate regulatory framework for development and exploration projects. The role also involves developing and maintaining respectful,constructive relationships with multiple stakeholders,enabling timely and successful execution of capital projects (primary function) and supporting ongoing operations.
